The Board of Social Services supervises the administration of the Gloucester Department of Social Services to assure the development of services that promote economic and social self-sufficiency; provide protection and support for families, adults, and children; and assure that available resources are used in efficient and effective ways.

The Board is composed of eight members, seven of whom are private citizens and one representative from the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors. All are appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Members of the Board serve balanced over-lapping terms of four years. No person may serve more than two-consecutive full terms on the Board.
